Obituary of William J. Turcan

William J. Turcan April 5, 2015 William (Bill) Turcan, 71, of Luzerne passed away unexpectedly on Easter Sunday evening April 5th after enjoying the holiday with his family. Born November 2, 1943 in Kingston, he was the son of the late William and Mary Baloh, Turcan. A graduate of Luzerne High School, class of 1961, he was very instrumental in planning class reunions every year since the class celebrated their 50th. Because as Bill would say "you never know who won't be here next year". A Luzerne Councilman for 6 years, Bill loved his town and was planning on running again this year. Bill was employed by Standard Motor Products, Motor Age and Keystone Automotive, until his retirement in 2008. He is the president of the Luzerne Sewer Authority, a member of the West Side Landfill Authority. A member of Holy Family Parish, the Knights of Columbus, Council 3987 both in Luzerne. In his social life he enjoyed golf, playing card with the guys at Irem Temple and being a member of Fox Hill Country Club. He is survived by his wife Deanna Koper Turcan with whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage on April 30th. Son, William (Bill) and his wife Karen of Columbia, Maryland; daughter, Tracey and her husband Steven Bonafide; two granddaughters Jenna and Justine (who he loved with all his heart) of Norwalk, Connecticut. Brother, Jack Turcan and wife Rita of Harvey's Lake; sister, Mary Majewski and her husband John and niece Lauren of Swoyersville. Friends and family are invited to the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett St. Luzerne on Wednesday from 4-7 pm. Father Zipay will have an service at 6:00 pm with the Knights of Columbus reciting the rosary right after. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
