Obituary of John J. Monico

John J. Monico February 24, 2017 John J. Monico, 68, from Luzerne passed away suddenly on Friday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Mary Flora Monico. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School where he stayed actively involved in planning class reunions and social gatherings. He attended Wilkes-Barre Business College where he pursued an Associate's Degree in Business. Prior to his retirement from Choice One Credit Union, he was operation manager of different financial institutions in the area. John was the past president of the Wyoming Valley Chapter of Credit Unions and a member of the Pennsylvania Credit Union League Board. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne where he was a Eucharistic Minister, member of the church choir, and actively involved in many church functions. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joseph and Michael, and niece Jolaine Monico. He is survived by his wife, the former Sue Ann Leandri, with whom he celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on February 12th, daughter Kristen Zellner and husband Eric (Allentown), son Brian Monico and partner Frank Moreno (Miami, FL), grandchildren Abigail, Andrew and Emma whom he loved dearly, and brother Anthony and wife Kate (Hanover Township). John also had a close relationship with his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and family friends. Funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:30 am from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett St. Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, with Reverend Joseph Elston officiating. Interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Lehman. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5-8 at the funeral home.
