Obituary of John Frank Slapar

John F. Slapar February 27, 2017 John Frank Slapar, 97, of Luzerne, passed away on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 at the Wilkes-Barre Veterans Medical Center, Plains Twp. He was born, Oct. 23, 1919 in Luzerne to the late John and Lena Vozel Slapar. As a young man he worked in the coal mines and entered the U.S. Army four days after Pearl Harbor. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was one hundred percent disabled veteran. He was awarded the Bronze Star during the Battle of Bastone. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Anna DiBuo Slapar; sisters, Antoinette, Mary and Helen and brothers, Joseph, Frank and Rudolph He is survived by sister, Dolores Urbanovich and husband Albert, Scottsdale, Arizona and many nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30 am from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett St. Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, with Rev. Joseph Elston officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the funeral home on Friday from 8:30 – 9:30 am. Interment will be in the Mausoleum at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wyoming.
