Obituary of John Michael Padavan

John Michael Padavan July 31, 2014 John M. Padavan, 87, of Courtdale passed away on Thursday at Special Care Hospital in Nanticoke, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Swoyersville, he was the son of the late Mateo and Otillia Broder Padavan. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II and also a United States Army Veteran. He was a coal miner and worked in several different area mines. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne and the VFW Post 283, located in Kingston. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Slutter on August 31, 1992. Also preceding him in death were infant children Matthew and Josephine; brothers Frank and Joseph Padavan; sisters Josephine Shoppel, Margaret Amos, Ann Napierkowski, Pauline Roper, Mary Harchar. Surviving are sons John (Debra) Padavan, Moscow, Joseph M. (Maureen) Padavan, Bear Creek, Michael (Judy) Padavan, Swoyersville, Frank (Linda) Padavan, Courtdale; daughter Annmarie (Joseph) Maffei of Pringle. He is also survived and affectionately called "Pappy" by 11 grandchildren, David, Frank Jr., Michael, John JR., Matthew, Lindsay, Jenelle Padavan, Jill Gambino, Joseph & Nicole Maffei and Kristina Bolton. Nine great grandchildren, David Jr., Alexis, Peyton and Landon Padavan; Andrew & Gianna Gambino; Brock & Nash Bolton and Brooklynn Maffei. Brothers Louis Padavan of New York, William Padavan of Wilkes-Barre and a sister Dolores Spencer of Lehman. Funeral will be held on Monday Aug. 4, at 9:30 AM from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett St. Luzerne with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Parish, Luzerne with Rev. Michael Zipay officiating. Interment will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Pringle. Friends may call on Sunday August 3, from 2-4 PM at the funeral home.
