Obituary of Joseph S. Samson

Joseph Stephen Samson September 15, 2014 Joseph S. Samson, 76, of Pringle passed away on Monday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Luzerne, he was the son of the late Ignac and Rose Svrcek Samson. He was a graduate of Luzerne High School, attended University of Scranton; United States Navy Veteran of Vietnam War, serving on the USS Sampson DDG10. He attended Electronic School in Great Lakes, Illinois; worked for Harrison Electric, Midway Tool Co. and was the owner operator of Samson Hardware Store in Luzerne. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne; former member of Murgas Amateur Radio and Holy Name Society at St. John Nepomucene Church. He was preceded in death by his brother Rev. John Samson. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Virginia Goryl; sons Stephen and John Samson, both of Luzerne; daughter Lisa Hittinger and husband Grant of Bethlehem, PA.; grandchildren Paige and Christian Hittinger. Brother, Paul Samson and wife Patricia of Cincinnati, Ohio. The funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30 am from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett ST. Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, with Rev. Michael Zipay officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
