Barbara D. Frantz
September 21, 2012
Barbara D. Frantz of Charles St, Luzerne passed away on Friday evening, September 21st, at home, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family.
She was born December 1, 1924 in Luzerne, the third daughter of Anthony and Eva Golovrski Milunic. Barbara was the last surviving sibling of her immediate family.
She was a graduate of Luzerne High School, class of 1943. After graduation she began working for the former A&P store in Luzerne, where she met her future husband Robert C. Frantz. They were married in July 1950 and enjoyed 56 years together until Robert passed away on January 22, 2007.
Barbara had been employed by the former JS Raub Shoe Company in their Luzerne store for many years but her principal role and joy in life was being a wife and mother.
Barbara and Robert were the parents of and are survived by twin daughters, Susan Frantz, Luzerne, with whom she resided and Judith Frantz, Forty Fort; daughter, Christina and her husband, Bernard Martz III, Hanover Township; son, Robert C. Frantz Jr. and his wife, Laura, of the Woodlands, Texas and daughter Julie and son Chris; and daughter, Eva and her husband, David Ryan, of Princeton, Massachusetts. Also surviving are cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey A Ryan, New York, NY and Zachary A. Ryan and Emma Leigh Ryan, both of Princeton, Mass.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Milunic, Luzerne; brother-in-law Bernard and his wife Lillian Frantz, Plains; sister-in-law, Geraldine and her husband Richard Kane, New Jersey; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Barbara was a member of Holy Family Parish and their Altar and Rosary Society and up until she became ill she was a constant at morning mass. She was a voracious reader and loved a good murder mystery, in print and on television and never missed her favorites, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, which she loved watching with her grandsons. Barbara was an excellent cook and baker and was known for her holiday cookies and nut and poppy seed bread. She made Thanksgiving and Christmas very special for her family each year. She truly was a female Santa. Barbara loved going out with her lady friends, Fran and Pauline, and very much enjoyed her many trips to Atlantic City. She will also be remembered for many evenings playing Scrabble with her family or working on the daily crossword puzzle and her lottery tickets. Barbara enjoyed the visits and calls from family and friends during her illness.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers, George, Anthony, Steve and John Milunic and sisters, Katherine Kannor, Anna Alapic and Mary (Mitzi) Milunic.
The family would very much like to acknowledge the amazing care and support given by the Compassionate Care Hospice, in particular, Judy Rogers, Janine, Joy, Jennifer, Leah, Diana, and Julie, as well as Chaplain Dennis Gray. Also thank you to Brenda Shaffer from Maxim Health Care who helped care for our mother during her final two weeks. In addition, a special thank you to Barbara's long time physician Dr. John P. Brady and cardiologist Dr. Richard Abramowitz as well as most recent cardiologist, Dr. Rupen Parikh.
