Obituary of Michael Gerchak

Michael Steven Gerchak, 90, formally of Swoyersville passed away on Wednesday at Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton. Born in Yonkers, New York, he was the son of the late Steven and Mary Svec Gerchak. Michael was in the military for 22 years, serving in the United States Army for both World War II and Korean. Prior to his retirement he was employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs in Plains Twp in the food service. Michael was a wonderful husband, loving step father and very family-oriented. He was preceded in death by his step son George W. Hinz; sisters, Pauline Linski, Ann Shek, Agnes Gerchak; brothers, John and Steven Gerchak. Surviving is his wife the former Betty Malligo; sister, Fran Wermuth of New York; sister-in-law Dorothy Smith and husband Raymond of Dallas; also several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett St. Luzerne with Rev. Michael Zipay officiating.
