Obituary of Mary A. Thomas

Mary A. Abraham Thomas October 15, 2013 Mary A. Abraham Thomas of Plains Twp. passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Golden Living Center, East Mountain, Plains Twp. Born March 31, 1925 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late William and Selma Davis Abraham. She graduated from Meyers High School in the class of 1943. She worked at the front desk of Hotel Sterling before becoming a pioneer by being the first over the road female salesperson for D & H Distributing. After marrying her husband, she and her sister Zaqua, ran Zaqua's Fashions on Park Ave in Wilkes-Barre. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Edward A. Thomas; sisters, Elizabeth Sallitt, Zaqua Kachinski, Sadie Abraham; brothers, Isaac Abraham, William Abraham, Michael Abraham and nephew Michael Abraham. Surviving are her sons, Alexander and his wife Marian; Edward and his wife Frances; grandchildren, Alexander, Jr., Elizabeth, Jessica; step-grandchildren Danielle Capwell, Robert Capwell and his wife Lisa and step-great grandchildren Chloe, Jacob Capwell and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30 am from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett St. Luzerne with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthony's Maronite Church, Park Are. Wilkes-Barre, with Rev. Hanna Karam officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary A. O. Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-6 PM at the funeral home.
