Obituary of Leon Nevin Gorki

Leon Nevin Gorki, 95 formally of Luzerne passes away on Saturday at Golden Living Center, Plains Twp. Born in Pattersonville, he was the son of the late Charles Gorki and Jennie Bloschak Tarreto. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Pa. Gas & Water Co. as a salesman. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne. Chairman of the Democratic Party for 50 years; Former Mayor and Councilman for Luzerne Boro.; he was also a tax collector and Luzerne County Assessor's Office. He wants to be remembered as the friend of the needy. He was preceded by his wife the former Eleanor Roschak Gorki on February 20, 2011 in death by sister, Verna Mae Hamberger; grandchildren Brenda and Brian Gorki. Surviving are his sons Nevin and wife June of Kingston; Ronald and wife Beverly of Plains. Grandchildren Nevin, Jr.; Christopher; Ryan; great grandchildren Kylie; Jared, Nevin James Gorki. Brothers Sam Tarreto of Port Crane, New York; Albert, Joseph and John Tarreto all of Luzerne; Leonard Tarreto of West Wyoming; sister, Sally Tosti of Luzerne. Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 AM from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett St. Luzerne with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Parish, with Rev. Michael Zipay officiating. Interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. Friends may call on Monday from 5 - 8 PM. Condolences can be sent to sympathy@betzjastremski.com
