Obituary of Timothy Joseph McManus

Timothy Joseph McManus December 21, 2015 Timothy Joseph McManus, 75, of Luzerne, passed away Monday Dec. 21, 2015 at the home of his daughter, following an illness. Born in Wilkes-Barre on Feb. 29, 1940, he was the son of the late James and Rose Harvey McManus. He was educated in Luzerne Schools, where he lived most of his life. A welder by trade, Tim was a proud 47 year member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 44 Wilkes-Barre. Tim was a talented musician and a remarkable singer and composer. He was the leader of the popular band "Timmy and The Bits and Pieces" which packed local clubs and events for over 40 years. He also performed as an opening act for many famous recording artists. Tim was an accomplished billiards player, having achieved and maintained the highest A.P.A. Ranking of Level 7, earning him the right to compete several times in LasVegas, against the best players in the country. Generous with his time and skills, he was always available to fix a car, tune a Harley or weld parts on a local fire trucks. In his younger years, Tim served as the secretary for the Luzerne Lions Club and received Lion of the Year Honors for obtaining a record number of eye donor pledges. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and his rendition of "O Danny Boy" could move anyone to tears. He was preceded in death by a daughter Kathleen and former wife Karen. He is survived by wife Karen, sons, Timothy, Jr. and wife Maryann, Mountain top; Sean, Luzerne; daughters, Patricia Malloy and husband John, Luzerne; Tara Territo and husband Larry, Luzerne and Kati, Coaldale. Brother, James, South Caroline; sisters, Rose Kindred, Courtdale, Margaret Carpenter, Edwardsville and Celia Lacina, West Wyoming; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett St. Luzerne. Private interment will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Pringle.
