Sigmund Karlotski

Obituary of Sigmund Joseph Karlotski

Ziggy was born on May 1, 1931 and raised in Luzerne. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were brothers William, Robert, and Daniel. He is survived by brother, Richard of Luzerne, and numerous nieces and nephews. He lived with his niece Jessica Nash, who provided his care, for nearly 20 years. He was the second born to the late Sigmund and Anna Karlotski, both from Lithuania. Ziggy graduated from Luzerne High School in 1949 and from Wilkes College in 1953. He served in the United States Army and was trained as a Morse Code Operator. Ziggy was one of the founding members of the Bunker Hill Rod & Gun Club. You could always find Ziggy at the Pocono Downs Racetrack, in his derby hat and binoculars, watching the horses warm up. He truly enjoyed studying the Bible and reading books on art, Christianity, and World War II. He also liked painting and writing short stories. Ziggy was an avid sports fan and he really enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Phillies. Although he did not have any children of his own, he was like a father to his great nieces and nephew, especially Poopski, and enjoyed spending time with them. He had quick wit which made conversations with him really enjoyable. He was young at heart and very kind. He will be greatly missed. A family memorial will be held in the springtime.
