Chester Daniels, 90, of Dallas, passed away on Saturday at Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary Mittrick Daniels. He was a graduate of Hanover Twp. Class of 1943 and King's College with a BS Degree in 1951. He was a United State Navy Veteran of World War II, were he served aboard USS Newcomb, a destroyer in the Pacific Theatre. He maintained lifelong friendships with his crewmates. Prior to his retirement in August 1980, he was an accountant and auditor for the U.S. General Accounting Office, Washington D.C. Chester was a member of St. Therese's Church, Shavertown; Knights of Columbus, Assumpta Council 3987, Luzerne; Fourth Degree Our Lady of Czestochowa Assembly; Kings College Century Club; Disabled American Veterans; Am Vets Post 59; Catholic War Vets Post 644, Maryland. Chester was also an avid fan of the Redskins and the Phillies, but above all, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Helen Daniels Lutz.
Surviving is his wife the former Betty Kowalick; daughter, Deborah A. Robl and husband Daniel, Princeton Junction, New Jersey; granddaughter, Allison Stransky and husband Gordon and grandson Douglas Robl, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 am from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett St. Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Therese's Church, Shavertown. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to The Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, 3900 13th St. NE, Washington, D.C. 20017-2699.
