Obituary of Naomi R. Zurinski

Naomi R. Zurinski October 1, 2017 Naomi R. Zurinski, 77, of Luzerne, passed away on Sunday at Timber Ridge Health Care, Plains Twp. She was born in North Girard, daughter of the late Francis and Catherine Kohlmorgan Shaffer. Naomi spent the majority of her life caring for others, both professionally and personally. She had a love for music and she always said to keep music in your heart and soul as it will get you through many of life's challenges. She played the accordion in her youth and she loved playing the organ for which was self-taught. "How Great Thou Art" & "There Shall Be Peace in the Valley" were regular songs she'd play and her family always enjoyed this gift she'd give them. She never complained and she was always giving of herself. While she wasn't able to be a missionary, which was a dream of her youth, she touched many lives by her kindness, caring and thoughtful ways. She was a caretaker at heart and it was evident by the ways she raised her four daughters, took care of her husband and other family though the years. Her beautiful smile and bright blue eyes lit up the room. She was a member of Holy Family Parish. She was preceded in death by her husband David Zurinski; brothers, Paul and Phillip Shaffer; sisters, Doris Clark, Jean Cole, Marian Crate. Sister-in-law who was more like a mother to her after her mom passed away at a very young age, Betty Shaffer (Mrs. Paul Shaffer) She is survived by daughters, Anita Norton and husband Marc, Luzerne; Brenda Yohn and husband Denny, Lewistown; Cathy Benny and husband Todd, Burnham, PA; Debby Zurinski, Swoyersville; grandchildren.
