Obituary of John Cunius

John James Cunius March 16, 2018 John J. Cunius, 65, of Shavertown, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Kingston Health Care, surrounded by his loving family. He will be sorely missed. Born in Kingston, and raised in Luzerne, he was the son of the late Frank and Ann Marie Sullivan Cunius. He was a graduate of West Side Tech Vocational School. John was employed by Jack Williams Tire for 24 years and worked as a manager in both the Wilkes-Barre and Dallas stores. He then started Cunius Brothers Woodworking & Restoration with his brother, Mike, where they restored church pews, kneelers and furniture. In addition to spending time with family, John was an avid train enthusiast, and loved to work on his antique Chevy and attend car shows. John was known by many people in the Wyoming Valley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Sharp. He is survived by his wife the former Janet Beth Jenkins, son John Cunius, Jr and wife Melanie, Wilkes-Barre Twp.; daughter Lauren Cunius, Shavertown; grandson, Preston Cunius; brothers, Frank Cunius and wife Mary Ellen, Pittston; Michael Cunius and wife Mary, Swoyersville; and also many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, 568 Bennett Street, Luzerne, on Monday from 5-8 pm. Interment will be held at a future time.
