Obituary of Ruth Elizabeth Shonk

Ruth Elizabeth "Betty" Shonk, 84, of Courtdale, died February 2, 2010, at General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. Born June 28, 1925 to the late Joseph and Ruth Thomas Senghaas, she was a graduate of Forty Fort High School. She worked as a machine operator in the garment industry and was a member of Luzerne United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Luzerne Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was predeceased by her husband, George, infant daughter, Linda, and sister, Jeanne Schoonover. Surviving are her children, Bette-Jo Calabro and her husband Lee of Swoyersville, and Sharon Romanoski and her husband Mark; grandchildren, Leigh Calabro Hart, Robert Etzle, and Matthew Calabro; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Jacqueline Evanchick of Allentown, NJ and JoAnne Shekiro of Trenton, NJ. Services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Luzerne.
