Obituary of Edward L. Martin

Edward L. Martin, 74, of Luzerne, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2010, at Hospice Community Care, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Pringle, he was a son of the late Edward and Elizabeth McHugh Martin. Edward was a graduate of Larksville High School, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, he was a truck driver for Suburban Propane of Pittston. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne. He will be missed by his buddies at American Muffler, where he was known as Uncle Ed. He also was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phil's and Notre Dame football. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Rita Healey; daughters, Maureen Pennington and husband, Mike, of Ohio, and Kerry Zawadski and husband, John, of Luzerne; sons, Edward III and wife, Cheryl, of Sweet Valley, James and his companion, and Mary Rose Salvo, of Pittston; and grandchildren, Alesha and Maranda Martin; brothers, Thomas and Paul Martin, of Pringle; sisters, Mary Shepley, of Pringle; Kathy Hetzel, of Kingston; Beth Ann McMichaels, of Dallas, and Theresa Sokoloski, of Kingston. Family and friends will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, for visitation with the family and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Zipay officiating. Interment will be held at a future date. The Martin family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre and Hospice Community Care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home Inc., 568 Bennett St., Luzerne.
