Obituary of Lottie Urban

Lottie Fox Urban, 87, of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Lottie was born in Shenandoah Heights, Pa., on December 30, 1922. She was a daughter of Irvin and Lot-tie Fox, immigrants from the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Poland respectively. During World War II, she was employed in an ammunition plant, and after moving to Swoyersville, she worked as a seamstress in various clothing factories while raising her five children. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Oscar, Arthur and Ted Fox. Lottie is survived by her husband, Algard Urban, with whom she celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary on May 27, 2010; her sons, Kerry Urban and wife Bernie, of Chi-no Valley, Ariz., and Kevin Urban of Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa; daughters Marsha Urban of Reno, Nev.; Diane Roberts and husband Tom, of Luzerne; and Dorene Tengowsld and husband, Michael, of Dallas; grandchildren Jason Urban and fiance, Leslie, of Austin, Texas; Noah Urban of Humbolt Country, Calif.; Sara Urban of Kingston; Todd Slembarski of Norfolk, Va.; and Danielle Crisano of Luzerne; as well as her favorite niece, Linda Croll of Sheppton, Pa. Lottie will be fondly remembered for her baking skills (especially apple pies and homemade bread), her sharp sense of humor, her love of "good eats" and never saying an unkind word about anyone, an attribute in short supply these days. In her senior years she enjoyed weekly trips to Boscov's and playing 500 Rummy with her friend Geraldine Slembarski (Mrs. S). For this and more, Lottie is sure to have been warmly welcomed into heaven. Above all, Lottie will be remembered as a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, home-maker and friend. Funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Fri-day from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home Inc., 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, with the Rev. Michael Zipay officiating. Interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Lehman. Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Lottie's family would like to thank Dr. Fath, the staff of Hospice Community Care (especially Pat, Karen D., and Leila), and Dorothy from Helpmates for all the wonderful care and support given. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Lottie's name to Hospice Community Care or Irem Temple Shephard's Unit.
