Algard L. Urban, 87 of Swoyersville passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 4, 2011.
Born in Forty Fort, son of the late Stanley and Mary Urban but resided most of his life in Swoyersville. He was employed for many years at Marion Power Shovel Co in Wilkes-Barre. After retirement he worked at many odd jobs. In his younger years he was an active member of St. Ann's Church, Luzerne. Serving as a usher, former member of the Holy Name Society and the Church Choir.
Al enjoyed spending his time outdoors especially planting and tending to his garden. He was especially proud of the blessed mother shrine he built with the help of his children. He was a presence on Railroad Street, having lived there for 60+ years. He kept a watchful eye on his neighbors, knowing their daily routine and thankfully they watched out for him. Since losing his wife in 2010 his constant companion was his dog Fred.
He was preceded in death by his wife the former Lottie Fox Urban in July 2010; brother, Victor and sisters, Jennie and Julia.
Surviving are his sons Kerry Urban and wife Bernie of Chino Valley, Ariz.; Kevin Urban of East Africa; daughters Marsha Urban of Reno, Nev.; Diane Roberts and husband Tom of Luzerne; Dorene Tengowski and husband Michael of Dallas; grandchildren Jason Urban and wife Leslie of Austin, Texas; Noah Urban of Northern Calif,; Sara Urban of Luzerne; Todd Slembarski of Swoyersville and Danielle Crisano of Luzerne; also numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Holy Family Parish, Luzerne for a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:00 AM with Rev. Michael Zipay officiating. Interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Lehman. There will be no calling hours. Arrangement by the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett St. Luzerne.
